I read The Four Loves as part of my research for a long-term writing project about animal rights and animal lovers. Normally, this is not the sort thing I would read. By that I mean the subject and the author. It won’t be very surprising then if I write I didn’t get much from the book. I found it confusing and difficult to understand. (I’m not a Christian.) I like the approach of Four Loves: Likings and Loves for the Sub-Human; Affection; Friendship; Eros; and Charity. (Yes. There’s five topics listed.) I liked some of what Lewis had to say, including about animals, but it was disappointing and didn’t give me what I hoped it would. I was looking (still am) to read about what “love” is. Nonetheless, I would like to reread The Four Loves as part of my research for my writing project.
