On January 1, 1974, I became a vegetarian and two years later a vegan. Also, in 1976, unbeknownst to me, I started to work full-time for animal rights with some of the world’s leading animal advocacy organizations.

I’m very fortunate to continue working as a consultant and as an author and independent scholar for animal rights and vegan, cruelty-free living. As I begin my 43rd year as a vegan, I feel as strongly as ever about our species’ callous indifference to the plight of all other species.

With every life we take, we diminish our own at the same time. If we weren’t such a selfish species, we would see that the liberation of all other species would free us from our own self-destruction and possibly all life on Earth.
